Description
António Teixeira Lopes is an important sculptor from Porto, disciple of Marques de Oliveira and Soares dos Reis, graduated from Porto’s Fine Arts Academy and Paris Beaux-Arts, as it was traditional back then. His brother, José Teixeira Lopes, architect, builds the family home, where the studio of the sculptor also functioned and where he accumulated an important collection of art objects. The house uses some decorative elements that came from the very important Gaia ceramic factories and other pieces in stone and brick that came from other buildings, resulting in the house itself becoming an exhibition object. In this county there are also the Soares dos Reis workshops, that will be rehabilitated soon, and the one of painter Pedro Olayo, in Miramar, abandoned. An unknown heritage that, on the whole, deserves to be valued.
