Description
This small house doesn’t have as an address a street, but a steep staircase, the Escada das Verdades [Stairs of Truth], that connects Ribeira to the Sé. Its 80 square meters divide themselves in a succession of four floors. To go through them, therefore, is like an extension of the stairs on the outside. And just like the outside, each floor offers a different space, each one relating to a garden patio, with distinct perspectives over the Douro river. The project functions as an archaeology exercise that starts, below, with the exposed rock bed that becomes more and more coated as we go up.
